Therapeutic Mentoring

The word therapy can feel daunting for many, and I often find that when discussing support options with parents, there is hesitation around the idea of their child receiving therapy. It can seem like a big and serious step, which is why I refer to my work as therapeutic mentoring.

There are two key reasons for this:

Firstly, much of the work I do is rooted in mentoring—building a trusting relationship where a young person feels comfortable, supported, and understood. By acting as a positive role model, I create a space where they can explore their thoughts and feelings, work through challenges, and develop resilience.

Secondly, my broad range of training allows me to tailor my approach to each child’s individual needs. Rather than following a single method, I draw on a diverse toolkit of therapeutic techniques, selecting and combining the most effective elements to create a truly personalized experience.

Therapeutic mentoring is also flexible and adaptable. Sessions don’t have to take place in a traditional setting—they can happen while walking, driving, or engaging in an activity, depending on what feels most natural and beneficial for the child. This informal, pressure-free approach helps young people open up in a way that feels safe and comfortable for them.

By making therapeutic support more approachable and adaptable, I aim to help children and young people feel heard, empowered, and equipped to navigate life’s challenges with confidence.
